This discussion is most relevant to those that are seeking mental and spiritual healing. These terms can be very confusing to those that are just getting started in their journey. As a new spiritual business, we at Align Spirits understand the struggle and confusion that arises from these terms. In this post, we will discuss the meaning and differences between the terms.
What is Metaphysical? Spirituality? Holistic health?
Let’s break down the terms that have been used interchangeable with regards to mental and spiritual wellness. The term “Metaphysical” has been emerging and is being used more than ever before. Let’s start with the core term in metaphysical which is metaphysics. Metaphysics, according to Merriam-Webster.com, is “abstract philosophical studies: a study of what is outside objective experience”. With that being said, let’s explore the definition of metaphysical. According to dictionary.com, metaphysical is defined as “concerned with abstract thought or subjects, as existence, causality, or truth and is concerned with first principles and ultimate grounds, as being, time, or substance”. I know that is a lot to digest, so let us provide you an example. An example of metaphysical, which is available on our website, is our collection of kits with purposes. To further expand on this example, lets use one of the kits as an example. For this example, take a look at the anger kit. The candle is specifically crafted for the purpose of dealing with anger, such as the essential oils, the color, wick, and wax. The abstract through, meaning, and purpose behind the candle is one of which applies the principles of metaphysical and metaphysics.
The next term we will explain is Spirituality. Spirituality is used interchangeable with religion, mental health, and mental wellness. The definition of spirituality according to dictionary.com is “elating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things”. With that being said, there is some confusion with religion and spirituality. Spirituality involves the spirit or soul and not the practices of religious beliefs. An example of this is someone that considers themselves to be spiritual, but not religious which is possible. A person can practice things to fulfill them spiritually that has nothing to do with religion.
The last term we will explain is Holistic health. Holistic health is the overall health of a person which includes the mind, body, and spirit. These elements are interrelated and when one is out of order the overall health of a person suffers. An example of this is when someone is emotionally drained their physical health declines. There are many medical studies that link stress to cardiac stress and disease.
